Dunhilll White Spot Factory Visit
Posted by Sam Brammer | 31st May 2019
It has been a busy few weeks for me, two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Dunhill factory which has been on my bucket list for a long time! I can confidently say it did not disappoint!! I have never seen so many pipes in my life, I believe there were around 14000 pipes in the factory.
I was kindly shown around the factory and shown the methods the skilled pipe makers used. I couldn't believe how skilled the Dunhill workers were. The factory was still using the traditional methods with not a single sign of any modern equipment.
I was amazed by the attention to detail that went in to every single pipe. Sometimes when looking at a finished product on the internet and looking at the price you often forget how much skilled labour has gone in to creating each pipe. It was a real reminder going round the factory to see just how much work goes in to each pipe. Only a tiny percentage of briar is of highest quality for Dunhill pipes.
After tour of the factory it was time for real business. I got to select some new White Spot pipes!!! I seriously underestimated this task when arranging my appointment with Dunhill!
I thought it would be a quick and simple matter of picking a few pipes I liked. I didn't realise quite how many there would be!! All in beautifully organised draws containing a specific finish and size. If finances would have let me I would have taken the whole lot! I initially went down to pick 30 new pipes for the website.
I may have got slightly carried away and ordered over 60. There are some very unique and beautiful pieces coming to GQ soon though. I would like to thank the Dunhill White Spot Division and all there employees for an incredible day out in London. I hope to be there soon to pick more out!
In the meantime here is our selection of Dunhill pipes, all individually picked out by myself!
