Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in Pinar del Rio, Cuba in 1886 and after leaving Cuba in 1959 are today one of the most influential cigar makers in Nicaragua where they farm, cure and ferment their own tobacco on their own plantations. Oliva were the first New World cigar maker to earn the award of UK Cigar Maker of the Year in 2014.
