Tobaccos:

Samuel Gawith Bothy Flake

When we first heard about this tobacco from our friend Sgt Matron at the Kearvaig Pipe Club, we couldn’t wait to try it. During the pipe show we was so busy and never managed to try any, but eventually we got to try some. The tobacco started out with a conversation between Sgt Matron and Bob Gregory (Samuel Gawiths), the idea was a tobacco that brought the spirit of the traditional both. A blend of dark Virginias with a little latakia and of course some scotch. The musky, smoky flavours of the tobacco are given a spicy side thanks to the whisky. While many comparisons may be carried out with Navy flake, to use it seems a different balance of the tobaccos and not just the spirit (Navy Flake is topped with Rum).

Peterson Irish Flake

A full bodied blend made of equal proportions air-cured, flue cured, and dark fired. True to the pure, unspoiled tobacco taste. Highly recommended for the experienced pipe smoker.

Rattrays Red Rapparee

A classic Scottish Blend (read more about English, Scottish and Oriental Blends), with very little or no Latakia content. Comprising of an Oriental base with some Red Virginia's and Unsweetened Black Cavendish. The Orientals add a wonderful aromatic back drop with a slightly savoury taste, the Red Virginia's bring a fruity tang to the blend and the Cavendish keeps the blends smooth and very creamy. I great change of pace to those who enjoy English/Balkan blends.

Robert McConell Glen Piper

Robert McConnell was a master blender, not only did he create his own stunning tobaccos but also carried the torch many other brands(Rattrays & Dunhill). The skills and quality of the raw tobaccos, made McConnell's tobaccos some of the finest in the world and Glen Pipers is a great example of what can be done with tobacco. Built on a base of Virginia's with some Black Cavendish and a touch of Perique. The tobaccos have been blended and hot pressed, part way through the process a little natural fruit extract is added. The resulting broken flake has plenty of body and smokes smoothly. The Perique adds a little spice and figgy nature of this American leaf is enhanced by the fruit topping. Think of a VaPer (Virginia & Perique), mixed with a little fruity European aromatic. A great introduction tobacco for those wanting to move from Aromatics to more traditional blends, or a change of pace for Virginia and/or Perique smokers.

Samuel Gawith Golden Glow

Wow if you like straight up and light Virginia blends, Golden Glow is one for you. This broken flake of mature, flue cured Virginia's has a wonder hay/grass aroma. The tobacco is a little so allowing a little air time, makes for a easier to light smoke and a touch cooler. From the word go this blend is mellow and very complex, grassy, hay, citrus, woods and a touch of spice con be tasted. Smoking in a smaller or narrow bowl, slowly really bring the best out of this Virginia blend.

Mac Baren Scottish Blend

Mac Baren Scottish blend is a totally unique blend in that it is made from tobaccos all over the world. It is made up of ready rubbed, matured virginia tobaccos, golden brown burley, Cavendish, loose virginias. This is a very popular tobacco, it is a mild smoke and lightly aromatic.

Charatan Victorian Mixture

This blend has a distinctive flavourful blend of pressed, darkened tobaccos with Perique added for character. A rich flavoured blend of light and dark Virginia tobaccos with a touch of Louisiana Perique for added zest. This air cured, ribbon cut tobacco is medium to strong in strength. Victorian Mixture has a mild flavouring and a medium to full taste.

Rattrays Macbeth

MacBeth is a traditional unflavoured blend. Made up of Virginias and Burleys

Robert Lewis Tree Mixture

This blend is based on a larger amount of the Oriental, which is known for its delicious soft and yet aromatic and spicy flavors. A little smoky Latakia and a pinch of Black Cavendish and Virginia perfecting the medium-strong blend harmoniously. Originally this was a "private blend" supplied to a frequent customer - Colonel Tree.
